Appalachian Artisans Guild to offer spring workshops

Members of the Appalachian Artisans Guild are offering several workshops in Hillsboro on two Saturdays in April at the First Presbyterian Church. These events are in keeping with the guild's mission statement to preserve and promote the traditional skills of the Appalachian Region.
On April 2, the first session will include seven classes: beginning crocheting, hand spinning, mountain dulcimer, cooking with lavender, an heirloom brooch, basic woodworking tools, and how to salvage and use wood from dead or blown-down trees.
Session 2 on April 16 will feature machine quilting, baking with yeast, basket making and beginning dulcimer.
The cost for the classes varies from $5 to $30, depending on the length and complexity of the subject.
