AGMC hosts 6th annual Student Fun and Safety Fair

The Student Fun and Safety Fair (SFSF) hosted by Adena Greenfield Medical Center (AGMC) was held on Aug. 5, approximately 225 children and their

families joined the staff of AGMC for an evening full of fun, food and prizes.

The children received education from the Paint Creek Fire/EMS on what to do in a fire emergency by participating in their fire safety exhibit. This

exhibit simulates a home setting that has filled with smoke; the children must use the instructions given to exit the home safely. Participants at the SFSF were also encouraged to explore an ambulance and police squad car.

Members from Highland County Community Action were involved to test balance and talk about the importance of reading. Kasey, the Fire and Life Safety Dog, was also on hand to demonstrate basic fire and life safety skills such as “Stop, Drop, and Roll”. The therapy staff from Adena Greenfield Rehab

reviewed back-to-school safety and backpack weight education. The therapists talked to the children about the weight of the backpacks they

carry everyday at school, informing the students that carrying a backpack that is too heavy for their size can injure their backs.

After visiting the safety booths, attendees were entered into door prize drawings. Door prize drawings included a bicycle and helmet donated by Adena Family Medicine Greenfield, backpacks filled with school supplies donated by Jett’s Embroidery, two cornhole games donated by AGMC, zoo tickets donated by WVNU, and four Big Wheel bikes donated by Healthsource of Ohio Greenfield.

The children and their families also enjoyed a free dinner donated by Life Ambulance and other refreshments donated by Save A Lot and Community

Markets.

The children finished up the evening of fun by playing games, winning prizes, shaking hands with Fire Pup, jumping in the castle, maneuvering the

obstacle course and sliding down the giant inflatable slide.

The Student Fun and Safety Fair is a free community event held annually, the first Thursday of August for children ages pre-Kindergarten through the
