Sen. Grassley: Changing candidates doesn't fool anyone

U.S. Sen. Chuck Grassley led a chorus of Iowa leaders saying President Joe Biden's decision to exit the presidential race doesn't change anything.

"The American (people) are sick and tired of the Biden-Harris open border policies plus high cost of living crushing family budgets. A change in candidate doesn’t fool anyone," Grassley said in a social media post. "Changing horses midstream isn't going to stop the bad policies + reckless agenda at the top of the Democrat ticket."

Grassley, 90, was already in the Iowa House of Representatives when Biden was a 16-year-old. The president on Sunday afternoon said he would finish his term but not accept the nomination of his party.

Gov. Kim Reynolds, who initially endorsed Florida Gov. Ron Desantis for president, said former President Donald Trump will win regardless of the candidate.

"It doesn’t matter who the Democrats nominate to replace Joe Biden on the ticket – they all represent the same failed policies of the last 4 years – especially Kamala Harris," Reynolds wrote in a social media post. "Donald Trump will be our next President. Until then, if Joe Biden can’t run for reelection, it’s clear he isn’t capable of running the country."

Attorney General Brenna Bird said on social media that "Democrats have destroyed this country over the last four years."

"And no matter who they replace Biden with, they all have to own that record of failure," Bird said. "They all still represent the same extremist agenda that has caused mass illegal immigration, soaring inflation, and a woke green scam. And now, they’ve single-handedly dismantled our primary system. Regardless of what their next political ploy is, Americans see the truth."

Rep. Ashley Hinson, R-Iowa, joined others in calling for Biden to resign.

"It was wrong for Biden, his advisors, & the media to hide his decline and gaslight Americans," Hinson said. "If Biden is unfit to run, he’s unfit to serve as president. He should resign. I am confident President Trump will beat Kamala Harris or any other left-wing radical they run against him."
