State Senate unanimously passes S.R. 121

To the editor:

As the U.S. continues to lead the world in natural gas and oil production, a number of restrictive policies from Washington are risking America’s energy leadership and jeopardizing Ohio’s robust energy industry. The impacts of poor policy decisions like the Biden administration’s LNG permit pause may be felt across America and in Ohio for years to come.

But Ohioans are pushing back.

The state Senate unanimously passed Senate Resolution 121 supporting the continued buildout of natural gas infrastructure and recognizing the strategic value of U.S. LNG to help sustain good American jobs and safeguard our national security.

In Ohio, the natural gas industry supports tens of thousands of jobs while contributing billions to our state’s economy. The freeze on U.S. LNG permits, as well as other punitive policies, have very real impacts in Ohio where the natural gas industry is a major economic driver.

Following the administration’s pause on U.S. LNG permits, a nationwide poll found that two out of three American voters say the country is on the wrong track on energy policy, and nine in 10 Americans believe the U.S. should continue to supply natural gas to our allies overseas.

The overwhelming bipartisan support for American-made energy and its critical role in bolstering our economy and global energy security should be a wakeup call to Washington to put a stop to the LNG pause.

Let’s continue to advance policies that strengthen our American energy advantage, not diminish it.

Sincerely,
Chris Zeigler
