Wilma Gossett Everhart

Wilma Gossett Everhart, 84, of Greenfield, passed away Thursday, July 19, 2012, at Edgewood Manor of Greenfield.

She was born on November 6, 1927, in Greenfield, the daughter of Harley A. and Rena M. (Fenton) Gossett.

She was a sales clerk at Gossett’s Book Store in Greenfield, was manager of Bowles Book Store in Hillsboro, and taught at Buckskin High School. She was a member of the Greenfield First United Methodist Church and the Highland County Senior Citizens. She was a 1945 graduate of Edward Lee McClain High School and graduated from San Bernardino College in California.

She enjoyed singing in the church choir, Sweet Adelines, and musicals. She liked to travel, boat ride, bicycle, and flower garden. She was known as “Aunt Wilma” to many children, caregiver, transporter, babysitter, and a do-anything-for-anybody to those in need. She served as a volunteer dispatcher at the Greenfield Area Life Squad for many years.

She is survived by two brothers, Wallace Gossett of Jamestown and Thad (Marilyn) Gossett of Greenfield; nephews, Tim (Jo Ellen) Gossett of Greenfield, David Ellis of Springfield, and Jim (Ruth) Gossett of Texas; nieces, Mindy (Mike) Anderson of South Salem and Barbara (Larry) Watts of Columbus; and numerous great-nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Merrick E. Everhart, on August 25, 2003; one nephew, Charles A. Gossett; and both parents.

Services will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, July 24, at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Rev. McClellan Reed Nicholson officiating. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family in Greenfield Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 p.m. Tuesday until time of service.
