Wilma F. Hillis

Wilma F. Hillis, 70, of Sardinia, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014.
Her long battle with cancer ended peacefully surrounded by love and family at her side.
She was born May 3, 1944 in Fleming County, Ky., the daughter of the late Autie S. and Sara E. Fraley Gibson.
Wilma was a stay-at-home mother and homemaker. Since moving to Sardinia in 2000, she was a member of the Sardinia Church of Christ, and over the years as Bill’s career took them to other parts of the U.S. she served in numerous church ministries.
Wilma’s husband of 51 years is Bill Hillis and they have two children, Jan Hillis (Michelle Ramos) of Glenwood, Ill. and Darrin Hillis (Jane) of Memphis, Tenn.; four grandchildren, Sara McLeod (Beau), Gretchen Campbell (Ian), Haley Hillis and Luke Hillis; and one very special great-grandchild, who brought Wilma great joy over the last 10 months, Lydia Jane McLeod, all of Memphis, Tenn.
Wilma had five siblings – four brothers who loved, respected and protected her and one extra special older sister – Joyce Holbrook Mignerey of Sardinia. “The Gibson Girls” helped each other through many hard times usually by the use of prayer and laughter. Along with her brothers and sister, she was loved and adored by numerous nieces and nephews.
Services will be Saturday, July 19 at the Sardinia Church of Christ, 7130 Bachman Road, with visitation from noon until the funeral service at 3 p.m. Burial will be Monday, July 21 in the
Elizaville Cemetery, Hilltop Road, Elizaville, Ky., and there will be a brief service at 10 a.m. in the chapel at the cemetery.
