Wavie Newsom, 91, of Hillsboro, formerly of Ashville, fell asleep in the Lord on Friday, Nov. 16, 2012.
She was born on April 20, 1921, in Louisa, Ky., one of 14 children of Thomas and Emma (McComas) Moore.
She was retired from Owens-Illinois Corporation in Columbus. For the last five year,s she lived with her daughter and son-in-law at Rocky Fork Lake. She attended Emmanuel Christian Church in Greenfield, where she was loved by all, especially the children, who called her “Grandma Wavie."
She married Lafe Newsom on Dec. 9, 1941.
She is survived by one son, Robert (Karen Stevenson) Newsom of Canal Winchester; one daughter, Carol (Larry) Maynard of Hillsboro; three grandsons, Kyle (Suzy) Maynard of Hillsboro, Kris (Cindy) Maynard of Dacula, Ga. and Klay (Tina) Maynard of Hillsboro; ten great-grandchildren, Cory, Alisha, Blair, Tyler, Ashli, Jayme and Kole of Hillsboro and Rachael, Ryan and Justin of Dacula, Ga.; special friends, Roger and Sharon Neil of Ashville; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 59 years, Lafe; both parents; and 13 brothers and sisters.
Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Nov. 19 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield, with Pastor Larry Maynard and Pastor David Hopkins conducting the celebration of life. Burial will follow with a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. in the Franklin Hills Memory Gardens in Canal Winchester.
Visitation will be from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, at the funeral home.
