Wanda V. Smyth

Wanda V. Smyth of Corpus Christi, Texas, formerly of the Danville community in Highland County, passed away Jan. 31, 2014 at age 90.
"Vivian," as she was known to family and friends, was born in Perry County, Ky. on Aug. 16, 1923 to Hezekiah and Mattie Sumner.
She was one of eight children. At an early age, she moved to Covington, Ky. to live with siblings and work in the World War II effort. There she met and married Russell Smyth on Feb. 21, 1945. In 1951, they purchased a farm in Highland County, where she and Russell made their home and raised their family. Vivian lived there for 57 years until moving to Texas to live with her daughter in 2008.
She was predeceased by her husband, Russell Smyth (1996); son, Irvin Smyth (1972); two sisters; and three brothers.
She is survived by her daughter, Linda Ellis of Corpus Christi, Texas; grandsons, Tracy Ellis of San Diego, Calif.; and Kelly (Barbara) Ellis; two great-grandchildren, Bradley and Bayleigh Ellis, of Corpus Christi, Texas; sisters, Jenny West Cox of Crawfordsville, Ind. and Lorraine Strochansky of Tavares, Fla., as well as many cherished nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Vivian was a faithful servant of Our Lord and to her family, friends, and church community. She loved and was loved by all.
A memorial service will be held at Union Church of Christ in Highland County on March 30 at 1:30 p.m. with Andrew Johnson officiating.
The graveside service will follow at Hamer Township Cemetery, where she will join her beloved husband and son.
