Walter Flora, 93, of Friendship Acres in Blanchester, died Sunday, Aug. 14, 2011 at the Clinton Memorial Hospital in Wilmington.
He was born April 26, 1918 in Woodford County, Ky., the son of the late Joseph and Kate Shoemaker Flora.
He had lived in the Highland County area for 50 years. Mr. Flora served in the United States Army during WWII and was a Purple Heart recipient.
He is survived by three siblings, Hildreth Lawson of Lexington, Ky., Evelyn Shaffer of Marshall and Tina Sanders of Cynthiana, Ky.; several nieces and nephews; and many friends, including close friends at Friendship Acres.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Zenia I. Fogle Flora; and four brothers, Ansel, Cecil, Joe and Tommy Flora.
Funeral services will be held noon Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011 at Davis-Turner Funeral Home, Lynchburg. Leo Kuhn will officiate. Burial will follow in the Troutwine Cemetery where the Highland County Honor Guard will accord military honors. Visitation will be held Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at noon at the funeral home.
