Virginia Frances Smalley, 73, of Greenfield, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 24, 2012 at Adena Regional Medical Center in Chillicothe.

She was born on March 10, 1939 in Bainbridge, the daughter of Raymond E. and Hazel B. (Rhoads) Groves.

She was a homemaker, babysat for many children and was a caregiver. She was a 1957 graduate of the Edward Lee McClain High School, a member of Good Shepherd Church in Greenfield and a member of F.O.E. #1325 Women’s Auxiliary.

She is survived by one daughter, Helena Sharp (Tom) Winegar of Greenfield; one grandson, Dylan McNichols of Greenfield; two brothers, Raymond F. “Sonny” (Marlene) Groves of Utah and Earl D. Groves of Greenfield; and nieces and nephews, Patty (J.R.) Parshall of New York, Raymond P. (Jennifer) Groves of Virginia, LaRae (Chris) Nelson of Utah, Joe Groves of Greenfield and Britt (Roger) Sowers of Greenfield.

She was preceded in death by one grandson, Benjamin J. Shiltz; one brother, Mervin P. Groves; both parents; and former husbands, Charles W. Sharp and Andrew Smalley, Jr.

Funeral service will be held 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 26, 2012 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral home in Greenfield with Pastor Danny Dodds officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Friday until time of service.
