Thomas Mayer, 79, of Hillsboro, died Saturday, August 13, 2011 at the Crestwood Care Center in Hillsboro.

He was born April 20, 1932 in Hillsboro, the son of the late Joseph C. and Edna Ruth Moore Mayer.

Mr. Mayer served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where he had served as an usher. He was also a member of Hillsboro B.P.O.E. # 361, where he was a past Exalted Ruler.

He is survived by one son, David A. Mayer of San Rafael, Calif.; one daughter, Deborah and her husband Kevin Ellis of Aurora, Ill.; one granddaughter, Kaleigh Ellis; and two brothers, William Mayer of Dayton and Robert Mayer of Pensacola, Fla. 

Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 18, 2011 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hillsboro. Father Mike Paraniuk will be the celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hillsboro where the Highland County Honor Guard will accord military services. V

isitation will be held Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Turner & Son Funeral Home, Hillsboro. The Hillsboro B.P.O.E. #361 will provide Elks services Wednesday at 7:45 p.m.
