Thayne Alan Stewart, Sr., 86, of New Vienna, died Thursday, Sept. 27, 2012 at the Clinton Memorial Hospital.

He was born in Highland on March 20, 1926, the son of the late Eldwin Frank and Monna Mae (Willison) Stewart.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Thayne Alan “Tony” Stewart II; three sisters, Jean Skaggs, Nancy Stewart, Mary Vereta Srease; three brothers, Robert, Roger and Frankie Stewart.

He opened and operated Stewart Welding Company for many years and retired as Chief of Police from the New Vienna Police Department. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy.

He is survived by his wife, Karen (Robinson) Stewart, whom he married on Sept. 3, 1968; three sons, Randy (Beverly) Stewart of Dayton, Richard Stewart of Wilmington, and Robert Stewart of New Vienna; one daughter, Susan Jane Stewart of New Vienna; four grandchildren, Thayne A. Stewart III, Megan Stewart, Amanda Stewart and Evan Parker Stewart.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 4 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro with Mike Daye officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Highland County Honor Guard.

Friends may call on Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home.
