Ruth Sharkey Penn, 81, of Hillsboro, died Saturday Jan. 12, 2013 at her residence.

She was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Hillsboro and the Ladies Golf Association.

She was born in Dayton, Ky. on April 19, 1931, the daughter of the late Harry N. and Mathilda (Bunger) Heskamp.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Dr. Thomas C. Sharkey, who died on August 29, 1973; and her second husband, LCDR Joseph E. Penn, who died on June 16, 2006; her two brothers, Harry Heskamp and Lee Haskamp; and four sisters, Kay Dubay, Anne Prigge, Mary Barbara, and Helen Massa.

She is survived by three sons, Michael (Karen) Sharkey of Vestal, N.Y., Timothy Sharkey of Marietta, Ga. and Matthew Sharkey of Greenville, S.C.; and one daughter, Meg Sharkey of Raleigh, N.C.; and three grandchildren, Erin and Thomas Sharkey and Hope Streett.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 19 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Mike Paraniuk officiating. Burial will be 1 p.m. Monday, Jan. 21 at the St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.

Friends may call on Friday from 5-8 p.m. with prayers at 7 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
