Robert Joseph “Joe” Phillips, 81, of Hillsboro, passed away Tuesday afternoon, July 29, 2014 at his home.

He was born Oct. 21, 1932, in Centerville, Iowa, the son of the late Paul W. and Ruby Katharine (Ingersoll) Phillips.

He was a Korean War veteran of the United States Army. An avid golfer, he was retired from auto and real estate sales in the Wilmington area for many years.

He is survived by three children, Karen Lester of Loveland, Douglas Paul (Becky) Phillips of Lansing, Mich. and Gary Phillips of Hillsboro; three grandchildren, Brad McCann, Craig McCann and Matt Lester, all of Loveland; and three great-grandchildren, Bradley, Blake and Brooke McCann.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son-in-law, James S. Lester, and a granddaughter, Diana E. Harris.

In keeping with his wishes, he was cremated. A graveside service will be held at noon on Saturday, Aug. 2, 2014 at the Sugar Grove Cemetery in Wilmington. There will be no visitation. The Turner & Son Funeral Home and Crematory in Hillsboro is serving the family.
