Robert Dane Bales, 71, of Leesburg died Friday, March 9, 2012 at his home. He was born in Ross County, on Feb. 12, 1941.

He graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1959 and enlisted in the United States Air Force. He served from 1959-1968, having served two tours in Vietnam. He retired from the Highland County Water Company on July 12, 2008.

He was raised by his aunt and uncle, Wendell and Geneva Chrisman near Hillsboro. His Aunt Geneva still survives.

Other survivors include his wife, Sarah (Chaney) Bales, whom he married on May 1, 1970; two daughters, Robyn (Mark) Gleadle, of Leesburg, and Cheryl (Steve) Bucholtz of New Carlisle. Also surviving are a sister,
Joanne (Bob) Helterbrand, of Greenfield; two grandchildren, Kara and Raymond; a cousin, Marsha (Chrisman) Brown, of Sabina; as well as many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, and cousins.

Graveside services will be held 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 13 in the Samantha Methodist Cemetery. Visitation will be noon-2 p.m. Tuesday at the Rhoads-Edgington Funeral Home, 138 East Main Street, Hillsboro.

Military honors will be given by the Highland County Honor Guard.
