Robert Charles Milbery, Sr., 84, of Pickerington, passed away early Sunday morning, May 27, 2012 at his son’s home in Hillsboro surrounded by his family and friends.
He was born June 8, 1927 in Columbus, the son of the late Thomas and Minnie (Aymer) Milbery.
He was a World War II veteran of the United States Navy and had retired in 1989 after over 40 years of service as a Transit Supervisor for the Central Ohio Transit Authority (COTA) in Columbus. He loved to travel, especially to the mountains of North Carolina, and was an avid Ohio State Buckeyes Football fan.
He is survived by two sons, Tom Milbery of Hillsboro and Scott Russell of the Mariana Islands; a daughter, Victoria L. Johnson of Cleveland; a stepdaughter, Stephanie Gregory of Louisville, Ky.; a daughter-in-law, Terree Milbery of Gahanna; a granddaughter, Lani Nicole Lizama Russell of the Mariana Islands; a dear friend and caregiver, Lora Higham Kelly of Hillsboro; as well as neighbors and dear friends Ann and Jerry Kallaus of Pickerington.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Nancy (Haywood) Milbery, on Aug. 1, 2010; a son, Robert C. Milbery, Jr., on Feb. 13, 2010; two brothers; and two sisters.
A memorial service and celebration of Mr. Milbery’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, June 25, 2012 at the Trinity Episcopal Church, 125 East Broad Street, Capitol Square, Columbus, Ohio. Rev. Richard A. Burnett, Rector of Trinity Episcopal Church will officiate.
The family encourages memorial contributions to the charity of the donor’s choice in lieu of flowers.
