Robert Arthur Dolph, 84, of Hillsboro, died Saturday, July 30, 2011 at Heartland of Hillsboro.
He was born Aug. 31, 1926 near Lynchburg, in Clinton County, the son of the late Cecil and Myrtle Worrell Dolph.
Mr. Dolph was a graduate of Lynchburg High School, had worked on the oil rigs in the South, had helped in the construction of the Hoover Dam and had retired form the Washington-Idaho Engineering Company where he had worked as a heavy equipment operator and mechanic.
He was a Merchant Marine veteran of World War II and a U.S. Army veteran of
the Korean War, a member of the Lynchburg Lodge #178 F&AM, was a Kentucky Colonel and enjoyed working with leather and writing poetry.
He is survived by his wife, Vonda Newkirk Dolph, whom he married on Feb. 16, 2008; two step-sons, Edgar (Verna) Smith of Arizona, Robert (Pam) Newkirk of Hillsboro; one step-daughter, Deborah (Damon) Haught of Hillsboro; 11 step-grandchildren; 14 step-great grandchildren; two brothers, Virgil “Corky” (Shirley) Dolph of Lynchburg and James (Barbara) Dolph of Virginia. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Polly Dolph; one sister, Bonnie Jean Dolph; and one brother, Richard L. Dolph.
Services will be 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 4 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg, Bob Stevens will officiate. Burial, with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard, will follow in the Dunkard Ridge Cemetery.
Friends may call on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Lynchburg Masonic Lodge Memorial Services will be held at 7:45 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Allensburg Church of Christ, 7105 Abernathy Road, Lynchburg, Ohio 45142 or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
