Richard H. “Dick” Rannells, 78, of Miamisburg, formerly of Greenfield and Blanchester, passed away Monday, April 30, 2012 in Winchester, Ky.

He was born Dec. 31, 1933 in Blanchester, the son of Tom and Corrine (Hudson) Rannells.

He began his career in the field of education as a teacher and coach. He later became a principal and was superintendent of several school districts. He was the director of the Rider Safety Program for the State Education Transportation Department. He completed his career in education in Miamisburg as assistant superintendent in charge of business. Post-retirement, he owned and operated Rannells Realty and Auction in Blanchester. He was a Kentucky Colonel and member of Rotary, Masonic Lodge and American Legion. He served in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne (Phillips) Rannells, whom he married November 1988; four daughters, Robyn (Jim) Curry of Winchester, Ky., Whitney Cook of Asheville, N.C., Heather Rannells of Winchester, Ky. and Brooke Rannells of Winchester, Ky.; one stepson, Steve MacDougall of Dayton; seven grandchildren, Vinny Zollo, Kyndal Curry, Todd Brewer, Jordan Campbell, Owen Irvin, Carrie Jane Irvin and Hudson Montgomery; one great-grandson, Aiden Campbell; one brother, Tom Rannells; one nephew, Chris (Tammy) Rannells; one niece, Chantel Lewman; and special friends, Ann Shephard and family.

He was preceded in death by one son, Ashley Rannells; father, Tom Rannells; mother, Corrine Weaver; and stepfather, Les Weaver.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Danny Dodds officiating. Burial will follow in the Blanchester I.O.O.F. Cemetery, where military rites will be provided by South West Ohio VFW Memorial Team.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. Thursday until time of service. Veterans Appreciation Service will begin at 1 p.m. 

Memorial donations may be made to the Hospice of the donor’s choice.
