Richard C. "Banty" Hill, 86, of Hillsboro died Monday, March 29, 2010 at the Select Specialty Hospital in Columbus.
He was born Dec. 3, 1923 in Hillsboro, the son of the late Raymond and Ruby Fawley Hill.
He was a 1942 graduate of Hillsboro High School and soon after graduation enlisted in the U. S. Army, serving in World War II from Feb. 2, 1943 to Feb. 3, 1946 as a sergeant in the 4th Armored Division which was part of Patton's Third Army. Upon his return from the war, Banty opened a grocery store in downtown Hillsboro. Banty later worked in various retail sales jobs and in insurance sales. He owned and operated Banty's Pizza on North West Street in Hillsboro and soon opened his second store at Rocky Fork Lake.
He had also served Highland County for many years as commissioner (1975-1982) and also as a Paint Township trustee (1984-2000). For the past 13 years, he was active in his wood-working business with a shop at Caesar's Creek Flea Market. He was a member of the Greenfield F&AM #318 and Greenfield Chapter #133.
He is survived by three daughters, Connie (Richard) Sylvester of Charlottesville, Va., Linda (Steve) Morgan of Blue Springs, Mo., Tammy Perry of Chillicothe, 12 grandchildren, Aaron Sylvester, Caleb (Donna) Sylvester, Hannah (Chris) Steele, Abigail Sylvester, Susanna (Matthew) Walker and Adam Sylvester, Sarah (Brian) Cicutti, Daniel and Joshua Morgan, Brian (Letanya) Stewart, Tyler Stewart and Megan Stewart; one great-granddaughter, Salem Stewart; one sister, Beatrice Turner of Hillsboro; and one brother, Dean (Kay) Hill of Hillsboro.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 3 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Burial with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery.
