The Rev. John T. Reed, 89 years of Hillsboro, died on Sunday April 7, 2013 at his residence.

He was born in Monroe, La. on June 24, 1923, the son of the late Manluff and Sally Owenna “Dottie” (Elliott) Reed.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Tommy Reed; three sisters, Mary Miller, Martha Miller and Nina Reed; and two brothers, Albert and Calvin Reed.

John was a carpenter and ministered for 54 years. He helped found and built the present Church of God in Cleveland, Tenn., Hillsboro Church of God and helped build the Hillsboro Post Office.

He pastored several churches in the area, his first being in Blue Creek. He also did evangelical work in Indiana, Tennessee, Florida, and Ohio.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie (Powell) Reed, whom he married on June 4, 1948.

He also is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law, Lois Marilyn Powell of Antioch, Calif., Leona Grace and Mark Huddleston of Glasgow, Ky., Mary Moore Reed of New Vienna and Rebecca Rose and Mike Larsen of Jemison, Ala.; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

Services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 10 at the Hillsboro Church of God, 5760 U.S. Route 62 South, Hillsboro.

Kim Zornes and Dan Hess will officiate, with burial to follow at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Sinking Spring.

Friends may call on Wednesday from noon until time of service at Hillsboro Church of God.

Thompson Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
