Philip L. Davis, 62, of Leesburg, died Wednesday, Dec. 22, 2010 at the Miami Valley Hospital in Dayton.
He was born Sept. 7, 1948, in Highland County, the son of Warren P. and Sarah Kathryn Roush Davis.
He was a member of the Hardin’s Creek Friends Church, where he was active in many forms of leadership including the Finance and Social Committees.
He graduated from Fairfield High School in 1966, after graduating he attended Ohio State University. While attending Ohio State, he lived and
worked in the stadium dorms, was a member of University 4-H and University Farm Bureau, and worked at Bobb Brothers Grain Elevator during the summers.
After graduating with a B.A. in agricultural economics from Ohio State in 1970, he became an organization director for the Ohio Farm Bureau. He
continued working with the Farm Bureau until May of 1972 when he returned to Highland County to farm with his dad and work with Bobb Brothers Elevator as a grain merchant, where he worked for 27 years until his retirement in March 1999. After retirement Phil continued to work on the family farm with his
son, Jason. He had served as fiscal officer for Penn Township for the last seven years, and was a strong supporter of 4-H and the Extension Office. He
was an avid supporter of Leesburg, Penn Township, and the Fairfield School District. He gave many hours to make the entire Leesburg Community a better
place for everyone. He was a devoted husband, son, father, and grandfather.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Karen K. Phillips Davis, whom he married June 20, 1971 in Mt. Vernon, Ohio; motherm Sarah K. Roush Davis of
Hillsboro; children, Jason (Tara) Davis of Hillsboro, and Brenda Davis of Cincinnati; three grandchildren, Kaley, Andrew, and Allison Davis; brothers
Gary (Carol) Davis of Delaware, Ohio, and Harold (Diane) Davis of Marysville, Ohio; father-in-law Howard N. Phillips of Fredericktown, Ohio; brother-in-law Scott Phillips of Fredericktown, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and many close friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, Warren P. Davis; one son, Brian Lee Davis; and his mother-in-law, E. Lavilla “Billie” Phillips.
Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28, 2010 at the Fairfield School Auditorium. Pastor Tony Tompkins will officiate. Burial will follow in the
Highland Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, Dec. 27 from 5-8 p.m. at the Fairfield School Auditorium.
