Paul Sherman Williams
Paul Sherman Williams, 75, of Hillsboro died Saturday, June 9, 2012 at his home.
He was born July 26, 1936 in Hillsboro, the son of the late Roger and Augusta Cumberland Williams.
Mr. Williams had worked as a foundry man retiring in July 1991 from the Electric Boat Division of General Dynamics Corporation in Groton, Conn. He was an active member of the New Hope Baptist Church until his health no longer permitted him to attend. He had served as a trustee and honorary trustee, had been a member of the men’s chorus, was the head of the men's ushers board and a willing worker.
On June 23, 2002, he received the Man of the Year Award. He enjoyed socializing, hunting and sports.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Cumberland Williams, whom he married on Dec. 24, 1990; six sons, Paul Roger (Lillian) Williams of Hillsboro, Gerald R. Williams of Hillsboro, Charles Williams of South Carolina, Anthony Lancaster of South Carolina, C.J. (Beth) Captain of South Bloomfield, and Ron Ron (Kelly) Captain of Hillsboro; six daughters, Linda Williams of Boston, Mass., Paulette (Wendell) Brown of Charleston, S.C., Bernita (Robert) Davis of Providence, R.I., Keeba Hassan of Providence, R.I., and Tonia Arrington of Chicago, Ill.; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Louise (Robert) Smith of Hillsboro; one brother, Richard Williams of Hillsboro; one uncle, Stanley (Mary) Cumberland of Hillsboro; and several nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by five children, Jeffrey, Dana, Marinette and Brenda Williams and Cherlyin Brown.
Services will be 1 p.m. Friday, June 15 at the New Hope Baptist Church. The Rev. Michael Hudson will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the New Hope Baptist Church.
