Norma Jean Hamilton, 89, of Greenfield, passed away Monday, Feb. 6, 2012.
She was born March 25, 1922 near New Petersburg, the daughter of Leighton and Glenna Garman Park.
She lived her early years in Columbus, then moved to the New Petersburg area. On Oct. 8, 1938, she married Dane Hamilton, and they spent their later years on their family farm.
In the early years of marriage, she was a loving mother and farm wife. Later she was also the treasurer for the New Petersburg School and in more recent times was the manager of the Kaluau Kreme in Greenfield for more than 20 years. She was a member of the New Petersburg United Methodist Church most of her life and cherished the many hours of Bible study at her home with the ladies of the Rainsboro UM Charge.
Mrs. Hamilton was preceded in death by her lifelong friend and husband, Homer Dane (Dane); a beloved granddaughter, Jennifer Lynne Hamilton King; her loving mother, Glenna Mildred; and her sister, Elizabeth Park Rogers.
She is survived by two sons, Edwin Lee and Cora E. (Burns) Hamilton of Greenfield and Thomas M. and Carolyn (Young) Hamilton of Houston, Texas; five loving grandchildren, Elizabeth Hamilton Bobenmoyer of Lyons, Neb., Joseph and Dana (Hamilton) Morton of Chuckey, Tenn., LCDR Scott and Nancy (Hamilton) Cauble of Sigonella, Sicily, Scott and Janet (Jennings) Hamilton of Columbia, S.C. and Brett Hamilton of Houston, Texas; 13 great-grandchildren, Steffani King Robins of Greenfield, Hannah Morton of Chuckey, Tenn., Jeremiah Morton at Cedarville College, Elizabeth Bobenmoyer of Robins AFB, Ga., Jarrett Bobenmoyer of Lyons, Neb., Katherine Irina, Peter Sergei, Virginia Ruth and Seth Edwin Cauble of Sigonella, Sicily, and Chloe, John Dane, Wallis and Alec Hamilton of Columbia, S.C.; three great-great-granddaughters, Hailey Jennifer, Alyssa Anne and Kimber Lynn Robins of Greenfield. She held a special place in her heart for her many Rogers' nieces and nephews.
She had, in her last years, four special caring friends she wished to remember: Don Bengtson, Ed Moore, Patty Detty and Malinda Coblentz, all of Greenfield. She leaves her grateful thanks to the many wonderful women of Community Care Hospice who helped care for her and the caring concern of Chaplain Dan Mayo and his wife, Beverly.
Funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Monday, Feb. 13 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Debbie Ketcham officiating. It will be an informal open floor with sharing of her favorite scriptures, music at her request by the family and time for friends and family to say goodbye. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, Feb. 12 from 4-8 p.m.
