Myrtle Mauk Fortune, 96, of Hillsboro, formerly of Ponca City, Oklahoma, passed away Thursday evening, September 15, 2011 at the Laurels of Hillsboro.  

She was born December 20, 1914 in Ponca City, the daughter of the late Erick and Eva (Smith) Mauk, and attended Kay County Schools.  

She was employed by S.H. Kress from 1951 until her retirement in 1990 and moved to Clarksville, Arkansas and then to Little Rock.  

She moved to Hillsboro in 1998.  

She is survived by two daughters, Dolretta (O. Nolan) Purtell of Hillsboro and Winnie (Ron) Covill of Ponca City, six grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren, fourteen great-great grandchildren, one brother, Calvin Mauk of Farmington, New Mexico and one sister, Adeline Stanart of Nowata, Oklahoma.  

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William F. Fortune, six sisters, Florence Beard, Caroline Steyer, Alvena Smith, Margery Pendergraft, Juanita Beaupre, Hazel Hodges, and two brothers, Alvin Mauk and Louis Mauk.  

Funeral services will be 3:30 p.m. Sunday, September 18, 2011 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro.  

Pastor Kenny Cousar will officiate.  Friends may call from 2:30 until the time of the service at 3:30 on Sunday at the funeral home.  Graveside funeral services at the IOOF Cemetery in Ponca City, Oklahoma will be on Thursday.
