Mildred M. "Jean" Young, 88, of Greenfield, passed away Sunday, Nov. 6, 2011 at her home.
She was born Nov. 7, 1922 in New Petersburg, Ohio, the daughter of Charles and Sarah (Wise) Snodgrass.
She was an employee of the U.S. Shoe Factory for 41 years and was previously employed at Wright-Patterson Air Force base during World War II. She was a former Girl Scout and 4-H leader. She loved gardening, holidays, ceramics, dining at the Quick Stoppe and spending time with her family, especially trips to Myrtle Beach and Florida. She was a 1940 graduate of the Edward Lee McClain High School and then attended business school in Dayton. She was active at the Senior Citizens Center in Hillsboro and the American Legion Auxiliary "Robert A. Smart" Post of Greenfield, where she was former president. She was also a member of the Greenfield Baptist Church.
She is survived by two daughters, Rita (Mike) Roark of Grove City and Linda Smith of Greenfield; six grandchildren, Mike (Mindy) Roark of Hilliard, Amy (Ed) Mays-Asbury of Dublin, Ohio, Lisa (Charles Gipson) Mace of Lyndon, Renee (Ryan Streitenberger) Evans of Circleville, Ronnie (Denise) Young, Jr. of Greenfield and Whitney Young of Cirvleville; 20 great-grandchildren; special friends Christine (Charlie) Smith of Murfreesboro, Tenn. and Juanita Penn of Greenfield; special cousin Patty Detty of Greenfield and the Quick Stoppe Gang; sisters-in-law Caroline Snodgrass of Greenfield, Alma Hamilton of Greenfield and Shirley (Dean) Cluxton of Lynchburg; brothers-in-law Hugh "Junior" (Priscilla) Young of New Vienna and Roger (Darlene) Young of Blanchester; numerous nieces and nephews; and her special K-9 companions, Lucky U, Rowdy Jazz and Razzel Dazzel.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald E. Young, on Sept. 1, 1999; one son, Ronald "Buck" Young; one great-grandson, Jeremy Mays; one brother, Charles Snodgrass; one sister, Irma Lyons; and both parents.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Nov. 10, 2011 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Dan Mayo officiating. Burial will follow in the Gilboa Cemetery.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Thursday from noon until the time of service.
