Michael N. Shepherd, 66, of the Dodsonville community, died Monday, April 8, 2013 at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati. 

He was born May 16, 1946 in Westboro, the son of the late Bud and Hazel Tolle Shepherd. 

He had been attending New Life Church in Wilmington and enjoyed searching and prospecting for gold, a hobby he has passed on through his family. 

He is survived by his wife, Linda Penwell Shepherd; children, Christina (Marty) Fitch of Hampton, Tenn., Dawn (Richard) Sparling of Palm Bay, Fla., Stacie McKnight of Hampton, Tenn., Tracie (Steve) Gwinn of Barefoot Bay, Fla., Jennifer (Shawn) Landrum of Palm Bay, Fla., Jason (Carrie) Penwell of Church Hill, Tenn., and Matthew Penwell of Dodsonville; 18 grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren with one on the way; three sisters, Peggy, Patty, and Polly; one brother, Buddy; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and special friend, Irene Stagge of Lynchburg. 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank and Tome; and nephew, Stevie Lydick. 

Services will be 4 p.m. Thursday, April 11 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home, Lynchburg. James Brown will officiate. 

Burial will take place at the convenience of the family. Visitation will be held Thursday from 2-4 p.m. at the funeral home.
