Melody DeAnn Adkins, 28, of Hillsboro, passed away Nov. 24, 2012 at Ohio State University Hospital with her mother, brother, sisters and other family members by her side.

She was born March 1, 1984 in Georgetown, the daughter of David and Nancy Prater Adkins.

Melody attended Hillsboro High School where she played softball and basketball. She also was on the cheerleading squad in junior high. She enjoyed spending time with her Grandma Opal. She also liked to go dancing with her friends. She was fortunate to share a close friendship with Shannon Tankersley through the years. Such a friend is not easily found and the family is grateful to Shannon.

On Oct. 30, 2000, Melody's daughter, Destiny Marie Bender was born. Over the years, Melody took care of her daughter with the help of her father, mother, brother and sisters.

She is survived by her daughter, Destiny Marie Bender; mother, Nancy Adkins; sisters, Connie (Carl) Storms and Tanya (Joe) Jenkins; brother, Shawn (Cassie) Adkins; nephews, Ethan, Gabriel, and Samuel Adkins, and Kevin and Brian Jenkins; one niece Caitlin Adkins; and numerous aunts and uncles.

She was preceded in death by her father, David Adkins; fraternal grandparents Lenvile D. and Opal Adkins; maternal grandparents Bill and Janice Prater; a special uncle, Michael Adkins; and favorite cousin, Nicky Adkins.

Services will be held at the same time of her father's funeral at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2012 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home, Hillsboro.

Burial will follow in the Resthaven Memory Gardens.

Visitation will also be held with her father on Monday, from 5-8 p.m. at the funeral home.
