Maribel H. Barker, 97, of Lynchburg died Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011 at the Autumn Years Nursing Home in Sabina.
She was born Sept. 25, 1913 in Peebles, the daughter of the late George and Margaret Garrett Hubbard.
Mrs. Barker had worked for 35 years for Dr. Ted Roush in Lynchburg as his dental assistant and receptionist, before retiring in 2002. She had been a member of the Lynchburg Three Arts Club and the Order of Eastern Star Lodge 331. She enjoyed art, painting and gardening with a special interest in flowers.
She was a 1930 graduate of Lynchburg High School.
She is survived by one son, Nicholas H. (Carolyn) Barker of Wilmington; one daughter-in-law, Judy Barker of Hillsboro; five grandchildren, Kim (Joy) Barker of Blue Creek, Frank (Michelle) Barker of Lynchburg, Denise (Tom) Mulvaney of Sabina, Kerry (Dawn) Barker and Nikki Barker of Wilmington; 10 great-grandchildren, Bronson (Kenni) Barker and Ryan Barker of Sardinia, Becky Barker of Lynchburg, Megan and Whitney Barker of Lynchburg, Cassidy, Nathan, Rachel and Collin Barker of Wilmington and Sara Mulvaney of Sabina; two great-great-grandchildren, Celeste and Kenzi Barker of Sardinia; and numerous nieces, nephews and loving friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William K. Barker in June 1964, one son, James R. “Rannie” Barker in April 2008 and by eight sisters and five brothers.
Services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 14 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Carey Hilterbran will officiate. Burial will follow in the Lynchburg Masonic Cemetery.
Friends may call on Tuesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg.
