Margaret Alice VanWinkle, 84, of Leesburg died Monday evening, March 26, 2012 at her home.
She was born Sept. 9, 1927 in Hillsboro, the daughter of the late John and Margaret Isabel Eckle Higgins.
Mrs. VanWinkle had worked for the Hercules Trouser Company and was a homemaker.
She is survived by three daughters, Cheryl (Loren) Meddock, Barbara (Joe) Waln and Elaine Schmidt, all of Leesburg; five grandchildren, Michael (Amy) Meddock of Leesburg, Erin (Ed) Turner of Hillsboro, Amanda Waln of Washington Court House, Ryan George of Chillicothe and Emily Schmidt of Leesburg; and one great-granddaughter, Annabelle Meddock of Leesburg.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Forrest Dean “Sock” VanWinkle on Dec. 15, 2001, two sisters, Hazel Frost and Carrie Shaw; and four brothers, John, Tom, Warren and Wendell Higgins.
Services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, March 31 at the Turner Funeral Home in Leesburg. Mike Hodge will officiate. Burial will follow in the Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday from 5-8 p.m. at the Turner Funeral Home in Leesburg.
