Marcia Jolitz, 90, of Hillsboro died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2012 at the University of Cincinnati Medical Center.

She was born Oct. 20, 1921 in Waterman, Ill., the daughter of the late Roy and Caroline Engler Herzog.

Mrs. Jolitz had been a schoolteacher in DuPage County, Ill. for 25 years. She was the first special education teacher in Illinois. She was a graduate of Northern Illinois University where she met and married her college sweetheart, Melvin Jolitz, in 1943. She was a member of the Highland County Senior Citizens, attended the Hillsboro First United Methodist Church and had worked with the ABLE Program at Southern State Community College for several years.

She is survived by two sons, Thomas (Joan) Jolitz of Traverse City, Mich. and Dr. Brian (Diane) Jolitz of Hillsboro; and six grandchildren, Allison Belcher and Tom, Daniel, Brad, Whitney and Brooke Jolitz.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin Kenneth Jolitz on Jan. 5, 2007.

Mrs. Jolitz had requested that a celebration of life be held privately by her family.
