Mabel Stethem Bailey, 91, of Hillsboro, died Friday, April 13, 2012 at Highland District Hospital.

She was born at Sinking Spring on March 18, 1921, the daughter of the late Lowell and Hazel (West) Stethem.

Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Edward D. Bailey on Feb. 3, 2005; one granddaughter, Leilani Loree Dill; one brother, Howard Stethem; and one great-grandson, Seth Thomas.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Martha and Dalton Shannon of Elizabeth City, N.C.; three grandchildren, Monique Arlene Everitt of Elizabeth City, N.C., Toni Shannon of Chesapeake, Va., and Mark Shannon of Norfolk, Va.; eight great-grandchildren, Monica Loree Dill, Makayla Arlene Baggett, Miranda Ann Everitt, Madison Christian Everitt, Kari Claycomb, Noah Claycomb, Zach Thomas and Alec Shannon; special niece, Patty Meyers; three nephews, Michael Stethem, John Stethem and Jimmy Stethem; David Humphrey; and five great-nieces and nephews.

Services will be 2 p.m. Thursday, April 19 at the Thompson Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Pastor Curtis Randolph will officiate with burial to follow in the Saints Cemetery near Sinking Spring. Friends may call Thursday from noon-2 p.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home.
