Leroy Hinkle, 76, of Leesburg, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2014 at home with his family.

He was born on Jan. 6, 1938 in Zoar, Ohio, to the late Homer Leslie Hinkle and Goldie Mae (Watson) Hinkle.

Leroy attended school at Union Township School in West Chester, where he met his loving wife, Thelma Lee Mercer, whom he married on Feb. 24, 1955.

He worked at Manchester Machine Tool during their early years, while he built his dairy farm and began learning the word of God. After leaving the machine shop, Leroy spent the next 50 years serving the Lord. He pastored the First Church of God in Urich, Mo., and in Hillsboro. He was also a farmer, farming in Clinton, Highland, Ross, Adams, and Fayette counties in Ohio, and Johnson County, Mo., as well as spending several years as owner/operator of his trucking business.

He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Leroy never stopped sharing his love for God and his family. He loved his wife more than life itself and fought hard to stay with her just a little longer before going to his heavenly home. Often you would hear him saying, "The most important things in life is a man’s love for God, family, and his work" and "Do I hear an Amen?"

In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children, Lisa (Jay) Siders of Belfast, Russell Hinkle of Blanchester, Eunice (Tony) Jones of Leesburg, Lois (Mike) Polston of Blanchester, Linda Kinzer of Washinton C.H. and Esther Mischal of Greenfield; 16 grandchildren, Sonya (Charles) Burns of Hillsboro, Tonya (Chad) Newkirk of Greenfield, Charity (John) Bass of Blanchester, Brandon Kinzer of Hillsboro, Josh (Lori) Jones of Frankfort, Zeb (Lindsey) Polston of Lynchburg, Jared (Traci) Jones of Sunfield Mi., Nick Hinkle of Blanchester, Gabriel Polston of Lynchburg, Danielle Kinzer of Columbus, Cody (Courtney) Hinkle of Wilmington, Seth (Emily) Jones of Leesburg, Rocky (Ashton) Mischal of Leesburg, Randall Mischal of Greenfield, Dalton Mischal of Greenfield and Evann Mischal of Greenfield; 15 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews and close friends; and a special loved one, Dan Kinzer.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by one bother, Homer Leslie Hinkle Jr.; two grandchildren, Jason Jones and Caleb William Polston; one great-grandchild, Riley Christine Bass; one son-in-law, David Randall Mischal; one sister-in-law, Eileen Ison.

Service will be 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 25, at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield, officiated by speakers Mike Polston, who is his son-in-law; and lifelong friends, Jack Long and Carl Carmean.

Burial will follow in the South Salem Cemetery.

Visitation is 5-8 p.m. Friday.
