Joseph Delbert "Del" Gilliland
Joseph Delbert “Del” Gilliland, 97, of Hillsboro died Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Heartland of Hillsboro.
He was born June 10, 1915 in Lynchburg, the son of the late Joseph Marley and Mary Frost Gilliland.
Mr. Gilliland had retired after 34 years of service as a foreman for the Clinton Asphalt and Paving Company. He was a member and past Elder of the Northside Church of Christ in Hillsboro and was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Emma Mae Brewer Gilliland, whom he married on Oct. 23, 1937 in Lynchburg, one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald and Gay Gilliland of Hillsboro; four grandchildren, Jeff (Elaine) Gilliland of Hillsboro, Brent (Gayle) Gilliland of Hillsboro, Angie (Ken) Ferguson of Dallas, Texas, and Pat (Tara) Gilliland of Hillsboro; nine great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Guy, Leo and Wendell Gilliland.
Services will be 1 p.m. Monday, July 9 at the Northside Church of Christ. Bill Pierce will officiate. Burial, with military honors presented by the Highland County Honor Guard, will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call on Monday from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Northside Church of Christ.
