John Lewis Caldwell, 83, of Hillsboro, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 19, 2011 at the Highland House in Hillsboro.

He was born Feb. 16, 1927 in Hillsboro, a son of the late Lewis Rowe and Nellie Christina (Johnston) Caldwell.

He was a World War II veteran of the United States Army and had retired from the Ford Motor Company in 1992 after 41 years of service.

He is survived by five children, John Caldwell and his wife Lois of Hillsboro, Timothy Caldwell and his wife Carolyn of Hillsboro, Joseph Caldwell and his wife Linda of Leavenworth, Kan., Anna Yochum and her husband Kevin of Ft. Myers, Fla., and Rebecca Rohloff of Salina, Kan.; 16 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, a brother, Charles (Libby) Caldwell of Greenfield; and a sister, Mary Jean Bell of Connecticut.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Wanda Lee (Banks) Caldwell, who passed away Sept. 28, 2008; a daughter, Linda Lee Caldwell; and a grandson, Phillip Rohloff.

Graveside funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, 2011 at the Hillsboro Cemetery. The Highland County Honor Guard will present military honors. Friends may call from 10-11 a.m. on Saturday at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro.
