John Joseph Winkelman, 46, of Hillsboro died Friday, April 2, 2010 as the result of an airplane accident.
He was born Dec. 24, 1963 in Cincinnati, the son of Leroy Edward and Janet Kolks Winkelman.
Mr. Winkelman was a truck driver for R&L Transportation Company for the past 12 years. He attended the Hillsboro Church of God and was a member and past president of the Highland County Pilot’s Association, a member of the Experimental Aircraft Association, had flown over 50 young eagles and was an avid Radio Controlled Airplane Hobbyist. He loved being with his family, flying and he owned his own airplane.
He is survived his wife, Lisa Johnson Winkelman, whom he married on June 6, 2009; his mother, Jan Winkelman of Hillsboro; father, Leroy (Robbie Vineyard) Winkelman of Mt. Carmel; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Donald and Gracie Johnson of Leesburg; three stepchildren, Liticia (Jeremy Beatty) Morgan of Frankfort, Michael (Kayla) Morgan of Indiana, and Mikaela Morgan of Hillsboro; three stepgrandchildren, Seth Beatty, Ryan Beatty, and Xayland Cox; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends.
Memorial services will be held 7 p.m. Thursday, April 8 at the Hillsboro Church of God. The Rev. John Maggard will officiate. Friends may call on Thursday from 3-6 p.m. at the Hillsboro Church of God. Memorials may be made to the Winkelman family, c/o Hillsboro Church of God, 5760 U.S. Hwy 62, Hillsboro, Ohio 45133.
