John F. Dickey, Jr., 82, of Fairfield, died Thursday, Dec. 22, 2011 at his home.

He was born on July 6, 1929 in Fairfax, the son of John F. and Golda (Turner) Dickey. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from White Oak High School.

He served in the U.S. Army in Korea in the Honor Guard for the Eight Army Headquarters. His duties there included serving as a personal body guard for General Van Fleet and President Eisenhower. Following his honorable discharge, he earned a bachelor’s degree in business from the University of Cincinnati.

He married Jane Roush on April 17, 1954 in Union Church of Christ. They moved to Fairfield, where he began his career in accounting. He founded the John F. Dickey & Co. CPA, where he enjoyed working with clients and friends until the day he died. He loved his family and friends, playing golf, his country and farm heritage. He particularly loved sharing stories during Sunday night dinners with family and friends.

He was a member of Lindenwald United Methodist Church, the Ohio Society of CPA’s, the American Institute of CPA’s and the Fairfield Sportsmen Association.

He is survived by his wife, Jane; his children Mark Roush (Susan) Dickey, Jennifer Jo Dickey and Brent Roush (Karen) Dickey; his grandchildren Christopher Mark Dickey, Kyle Andrew Dickey, Jill Allen Dickey, Jay Brent Dickey, Joel Christopher Schneider and Justin Edward (Sue) Schneider; sister Joyce Morefield; sister-in-laws Janet Dickey and Juanita Dickey.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Mark Dickey, Hugh Dickey, Maynard Dickey and Lowell Dean Dickey; and sister, Mary Kathryn Cox.

Services will be Tuesday, Dec. 27, 2011 at 7 p.m. at the Lindenwald United Methodist Church 3501 Pleasant Ave., Hamilton. Visitation will be Tuesday at the church from 5-7 p.m.

Burial committal services will be Wednesday, Dec. 28 at 11 a.m. in the family plot at Union Cemetery, Hillsboro.

Remembrances may be sent to the Fairfield Community Foundation, in care of the John and Jane Dickey Endowment Fund.
