John E. Allen

Our precious father, grandfather and brother, John E. Allen of Lynchburg, Ohio gained his wings on Aug. 23, 2025, at home. 

John was born on June 2, 1950, the son of the late Delbert E. and Mildred (Hawthorne) Allen. 

He was preceded in death by one brother, Mitchell Allen; two sisters, Mary Garrison and Sarah McConnaughey, and one great-grandson, Colson John-Wade Allen. 

John was a graduate of Lynchburg High School, class of 1968. On Sept. 22, 1973, John married the love of his life, Delana Barnett in Cherry Fork, Ohio on the Barnett Family Farm. He retired from Randall Textron Co. in Wilmington. He and his wife, Delana, ran the “Family Diner” in Lynchburg for many years. He also enjoyed mowing yards for his family and friends. 

In his younger years, he pulled ponies all over the state of Ohio. In his golden years, he enjoyed pulling antique tractors and going to bingo. The family expressed their appreciation of all the love and kindness shown to them during their time of sorrow. 

John is survived by his wife of 51 years, Delana Allen of Lynchburg; one son, John Thomas Edward (Amy) Allen; two daughters, Jolene Marie (Adam) Weeks and Tonya Mae (Jay) Gross; 15 grandchildren, Taylor (Matt) Greene, Little Tommy (Brooke) Allen, Victoria Allen, Tanner (Megan) Griffith, Kasyn Allen, Macie Allen, Kylie Utley, Auberie Utley, Tiffany Waits, Kaitlyn Waits, Brennon Weeks, RJ Gross, Courtney Gross, Jaycob Gross, Brooklyn Gross; 16 great-grandchildren; five sisters, Veda Mae Elam, Violet Ditterline, Ruth Ann Moore, Darlene Michael and Joyce (Rex) Setty; two special friends he considered brothers, Chester and Bill; his dog, Lucy; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Visitation will be 11-1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 28 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home. Funeral services will take place at 1 p.m. following visitation at the funeral home.
