John Brown, 85, of Peebles, died Friday, May 4, 2012 at the Georgetown Ohio Veterans Home.

He was born in Leesburg, on Nov. 4, 1926, the son of the late Jesse and Gladys (Newkirk) Brown.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Stephens, on April 27, 1991.

He was a Navy veteran, serving in World War II.

He is survived by his second wife, Norma (Rhoads) Brown, whom he married on July 1, 1994 of Peebles; one son, Steve Brown of Cincinnati; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Mike Richmond of Cincinnati; two step-daughters, Kim and Doug McFarland of Peebles, Michelle and Jay Buten of Cincinnati; one brother, Bob Brown of Hillsboro; one sister, Ann Jordan of Hillsboro; one granddaughter, one great-grandchild and six step-grandchildren.

Services will be 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9 at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home with Todd Zike officiating. Military graveside rites will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery by the Adams County Honor Guard.

Friends may call on Tuesday from 5-7 p.m. at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home.
