John Brown, 85, of Peebles, died Friday, May 4, 2012 at the Georgetown Ohio Veterans Home.

He was born in Leesburg on Nov. 4, 1926, the son of the late Jesse and Gladys (Newkirk) Brown.

He was a Navy veteran serving in WWII.

He is survived by his second wife, Norma (Rhoads) Brown, whom he married on July 1, 1994 of Peebles; one son, Steve Brown of Cincinnati; one daughter and son-in-law, Nancy and Mike Richmond of Cincinnati; two stepdaughters, Kim and Doug McFarland of Peebles and Michelle and Jay Buten of Cincinnati; one brother, Bob Brown of Hillsboro; one sister, Ann Jordan of Hillsboro; one granddaughter; one great-grandchild; and six step-grandchildren.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Stephens, on April 27, 1991.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2012 at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home with Todd Zike officiating. Military graveside rites will follow at the Locust Grove Cemetery by the Adams County Honor Guard.

Friends may call on Tuesday evening from 5-7 p.m. at the Wallace-Thompson Funeral Home.
