Janet Sue Martin, 73, of the community of Buford, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011 at her home with family and loved ones by her side.

She was born June 13, 1938, in Spring Valley, the daughter of the late Hugh and Jean (Roberts) Purdy.

Along with her husband, Wendell, she traveled extensively throughout the United States for their business, Purdy Glass. She thoroughly enjoyed meeting people, making dear friends and many wonderful memories through their dealings in depression glass and antiques. She truly was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.

On Oct. 25, 1958, in Buford, she married her husband of 53 years, Wendell E. Martin, and he survives. She is also survived by three sons, Nick Martin and his wife, Ebbie, of Buford, Jack Martin and his wife, Mary, of Fayetteville and Marty Martin of Buford; siblings include Linda (Richard) Galliet of Spokane, Wash., Sally Davis of Anderson, James Purdy of Hillsboro, Larry (Susan) Purdy of Buford, Terri Purdy of Florida and Vicki Iles of Pricetown; a sister-in-law, Barbara Martin of Buford, as well as several grandchildren, step grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Laura Martin.  

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 14 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg. Glenn Hess will officiate. Burial will follow in the Buford Cemetery. Friends may call from 5-8 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 13 at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home.
