Janet Ileen Wheelen, 81, of Hillsboro, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011 at the Miami Valley Hospital.
She was born Oct. 25, 1929 in Fayette County, a daughter of the late Pearl Ernest and Ada (Stanforth) Merritt.
She was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother, and was a member of the Belfast United Methodist Church.
She is survived by five children, Terry Wheelen of Belfast, Rhonda Fisher of Wyoming, Barbara Stephenson of Peebles, Kimberly Bridges of Hillsboro, and Joy (Tracy) Harrell of Florida; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ruth Taylor and Margaret McConkey, both of Washington Court House; one brother, Russell Merritt of Philo, Ohio; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 46 years, Murrell Wheelen, Jr., on Feb. 3, 1999; a daughter, Patricia McDaniels; two infant sons, Randall and James; a granddaughter, Amy Henson; six brothers, Thomas, Austin, Howard, Carl, Ralph and Rell Merritt; and three sisters, Doris Denny, Mary Pitzer and Joella Merritt.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 7, 2011 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home in Hillsboro. Rev. Ken Woleab will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillsboro Cemetery. Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 6, 2011 at the Turner & Son Funeral Home.
