James Vernon Huffman, 71, of Florence, Miss., died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2011 at his residence.

He was born Oct. 1, 1940, in Highland County, the son of the late Cecil Vernon "Jack" and Mary Ethel (Reno) Huffman. Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister Barbara Ann Huffman.

James had retired from Sears and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

He is survived by two daughters, Gayle (Mike) Jennings of Florence, Miss. and Angie (Sam) Tripp of Bunn, N.C.; two stepsons, Michael Woods and John Woods, both of New Holland, Ohio; two brothers, Ronald (Tempy) Huffman of Hillsboro and John (Suzanne) Huffman of Peebles;, five grandchildren, Liam Durham, Nathan Durham, Michael (Kayla) Jennings, Holly (Roger) Neely and Jason Jennings; and two great-grandchildren, Riley Neely and Dalton Jennings.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 4, 2012 at the Wylie-Thompson Funeral Home in Sinking Spring.

Burial will follow in the Dunkard Ridge Cemetery with military rites conducted by the Highland County Honor Guard.

Friends may call Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at the Wylie-Thompson Funeral Home.
