James “Jim” Nathan Chestnut, 71, died Oct. 7, 2011 in Exeter, N.H.
He was born Nov. 6, 1939 in Hillsboro, the son of Myrtle (Anderson Chestnut) Stephens and the late, Lloyd Chestnut.
He grew up in Hillsboro, graduated from Marshall High School, and enlisted into the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. He served
for over nine years and was discharged honorably as a staff sergeant. He was stationed for some time at Pease Air Force Base in Portsmouth, N.H. and later
remained close by, becoming a resident of Kingston, N.H.
He was a self-employed carpenter.
In addition to his father, he was pre-deceased by a daughter, Roxanne Murphy; a brother, Thomas Stephens; a sister, Nellie Lusk; and his
step-father, Orville Stephens.
He is survived by his mother, Myrtle Stephens of Hillsboro; his loving wife, Dawn Chestnut of Kingston, N.H.; a daughter, Lisa Rockwell of Nashua, N.H.; a son, James Nathan Chestnut II of Pembroke, N.H.; two step-sons, Michael Parziale of Kingston, N.H. and James Russo of Epping, N.H.; four grandsons; one great-grandson; three brothers, Robert and wife, Gloria Chestnut, Frank and wife, Debbie Stephens, and Mike Stephens all of Ohio; three sisters, Janie and
husband, Dean Shoemaker, Elizabeth and husband, John Kidder, and Nancy Pestian all of Ohio; and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held on Monday, Oct. 10 from 5-7 p.m. at the Brewitt Funeral Home, Exeter, N.H. A memorial service with military honors will follow on Oct. 10 at 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A memorial service will be held in Hillsboro at a later date.
Inurnment will be in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen, N.H.
