Howard G. “Hoppy” Beatty, 83, of Greenfield, died Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2012 at Adena Greenfield Medical Center.

He was born March 1, 1929 in Greenfield, the son of William and Lillie (Willett) Beatty.

He retired in 1988 after 29 years of service in the city of Greenfield Street Department, where he served as a superintendent. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenfield, FOE Aerie 1325, and VFW Post 4736. He loved people, politics, and pretty gardens.

He is survived by his wife, Janet (Wagner) Beatty, whom he married Sept. 11, 1965; one son, Harold “Bubby” (Becky) Beatty of Greenfield; one daughter, Barbara (Roger) Duncan of Greenfield; three grandchildren, Melissa (Zach) Sims of Greenfield, Wesley (Martha) Scarberry of Richmond, Ky., and Bridget (Jason) Campbell of Leesburg; 11 great-grandchildren, Haley, Mallory, and Carly Sims, Tyler and Jenna Scarberry, Heath Beatty, Jr., Mckenzie Ballentine, Caitlin and Nolan Campbell, and Kassi and Dawson Beatty; one sister, Catherine (Charles) Clouser of Greenfield; four nieces and nephews, Tim Clouser, Krista Crouse, Steve Adams, Sharon Greene; several great-nieces and nephews; one brother-in-law, Otis (Joellen) Wagner of Greenfield; and one sister-in-law, Becky Wagner of Greenfield.

He was preceded in death by one stepson, John Curtis Hull; one grandson, Heath Beatty; two brothers, John Beatty, Kenneth Beatty; one sister, Harriett Adams; and both parents.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 22, at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with the Rev. Tim Mohon and Otis Wagner officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, at the funeral home, with Eagles services to be at 8 p.m.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Greenfield, 250 Lafayette Street, Greenfield, Ohio 45123, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
