Helen M. Matthews, 81, of Greenfield, passed away Wednesday, April 25, 2012 at home.

She was born Sept. 7, 1930 in Pike County, the daughter of Walter and Nellie (Mossbarger) VanDyke.

She was a homemaker and former employee of the U.S. Shoe Factory.

She is survived by two daughters, Diana (Tim) Woods and Patricia (Ricky) Jones, both of Greenfield; two sons, David Matthews of Bainbridge and Stephen (Angela) Matthews of Greenfield; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; two step-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Phyllis (George) Smith of Leesburg and Annie Schmidt of Scottsdale, Ariz.; three brothers, Howard (Norma) VanDyke of Greenfield, Russel (Maxine) VanDyke of Greenfield and Robert (Fran) VanDyke of Washington C.H.; and numerous nieces and nephews, including a special niece, Bev Baker of New Petersburg.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Matthews, whom died Oct. 3, 1993; one grandson, Larry Forsha; one great-grandson, Harvey Jones; two sisters, Dorothy McCallister and Mary Bell; two brothers, Charles VanDyke and Jessie VanDyke; and both parents.

Funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 1 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield with Pastor Mike Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery.

Visitation will be held 5-8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
