Harold W. Rutherford, 90, of Hillsboro, died Thursday morning, Nov. 17, 2011 at the Highland District Hospital.
He was born Feb. 11, 1921 in Yakima, Wash., the son of the late Edward J. and Edith Elbon Rutherford.
Mr. Rutherford had worked for the National Cash Register Company as a job analyst for 37-1/2 years. He had served as a Coxswain V6 in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a 1940 graduate of Waynesville High School, attended the Third Street Baptist Church in Dayton, was active in the “Save the Lake” project at Rocky Fork Lake and enjoyed hunting, fishing, bowling, camping, gardening, woodworking and counting cross-stitch.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Helen Conner Rutherford whom he had married on Jan. 6, 1945 in Lebanon; two daughters, Susan E. Rutherford of Dayton and Sheryl A. (Jim) Leaman of Lima; two grandchildren, Jennifer (Brad) Waller of Murray, Ky. and Joseph S. Leaman of Akron; and one great-granddaughter, Jillian Waller.
Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family. There will be no visitation.
