H. William Martindill, 79, of Hamilton, passed away Saturday, Nov. 12, 2011 at Kettering Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.
He was born on July 18, 1932 in Greenfield, the son of Howard Clifford and Elizabeth (Hanagan) Martindill.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956 in Europe in the Occupational Forces of WWII. He retired from Mosler Safe Company in Hamilton, where he served as an industrial engineer, after 35 years of service. Later, he was employed for John Deere Corporation. He was a 1950 graduate of the Edward Lee McClain High School. He was a member of Elks Lodge #93, Knights of Columbus #968 and American Legion Post 138. He was an avid fan and knowledgeable historian of the Ohio State Buckeyes.
He is survived by two daughters, Becky Telgkamp of Fairfield and Amy Louise Martindill of Huber Heights; one stepson, Dennis (Susan) Doyle of Aberdeen; three step-grandsons, Xachary Telgkamp of Cincinnati and Andrew (Laura) and Lyle (Katie) Doyle of Manchester; two step great-granddaughters, Alyssa and Savannah Doyle of Aberdeen; two step-great- grandsons, Landon and Collin Doyle of Aberdeen; one sister; Mary Ellen (Robert) Trotman of Savannah, Ga.; several devoted, loving nieces and nephews and their families; extended family and friends; and special friend Denise Tegge of Willoughby. A very special thanks to the Gary Hicks and Bolton families for their kindness and generosity, especially during this difficult time. The family would like to thank the staff at both Ft. Hamilton and Kettering Memorial Hospitals.
He was preceded in death by two wives, Pamela (Schwab) Martindill on June 27, 1991 and Lula Belle (Mason) Martindill on Nov. 19, 2006; one sister, Ann Bennett; one brother, Dickey Martindill; one niece, Susan Chasteen; one stepson, Tom Doyle; and both parents.
Funeral services will be held noon Thursday, Nov. 17, 2011 at the Murray-Fettro Funeral Home in Greenfield. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery with military rites to be performed by the Concerned Veterans of Greenfield. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. Thursday until time of service with veteran's appreciation service to begin at noon.
