Gertrude Douglas Countryman, 96, of Peebles, died Tuesday, Jan. 3, 2012 at the Highland District Hospital.
She was born on April 17, 1915 in Highland County, the daughter of the late Elic and Ella (Ryan) Douglas. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John B. Countryman; two sons, John Lee and Kevin M.; two grandsons, Ryan Dean Countryman and Charlie; and relatives, Noble Douglas, Mae Grover, Ash Swisshelm, Ova Swisshelm, Marie Kelly, Dena Kelly and Ogie Fox.
She was a member of the Peebles Church of Christ in Christian Union
She is survived by four sons and daughters-in-law, Charles Robert and Ada Countryman of Peebles, Gary D. and Pam Countryman of Dayton, Neil F. and Sharon Countryman of Chillicothe and Paul D. and Teresa Countryman of Peebles, two daughters and son-in-law; Constance Joy and Merle Dean Shoemaker and Julia E. Countryman, all of Peebles; 13 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday, Jan. 8 at 2 p.m. at the Wylie-Thompson Funeral Home with Rev. Dave Hopkins officiating. Burial will follow
in the Locust Grove Cemetery.
Friends may call on Sunday from noon until time of service at 2 p.m. at the Wylie-Thompson Funeral Home.
