George Washington Owens, Jr.

George Washington Owens, Jr., 84, of Lynchburg, died Monday, Dec. 12 at the Highland District Hospital.

He was born March 31, 1927 in Olive Hill, Ky., the son of the late George Washington Owens, Sr. and Florence Stallard Owens.

Mr. Owens had worked for many years at DELCO Marine and General Motors in Dayton and also was involved in farming. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of the VFW Post 9094.

He is survived by five nieces, Kay Gray of Lynchburg, Sarah Watson of Hillsboro, Connie Howell of Dayton, Pat Smoot of Vandalia and Ithel Brown of Louisville; six nephews, Jack Owens, M.D. of Louisville, Harold Owens, M.D. of Irvington, Ky., Herbert Owens of Albuquerque, N.M., James Shaffer of Grayson, Ky., William E. Shaffer of Grayson and Norman Shaffer of Grayson; one sister, Delores Shaffer of Grayson; and several great and great-great nieces and nephews.

Services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 17 at the Bethel Chapel Church in Olive Hill, Ky. Brother Lowell Webb will officiate. Burial will follow in the Bethel Chapel Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until time of services on Saturday at the Church. The Globe Funeral Home is serving the family. Friends may call also on Friday from 5-7 p.m. at the Davis-Turner Funeral Home in Lynchburg, Ohio.
