George H. Elliott, 77, of Lima, formerly of Bainbridge, died 1 a.m. Monday, Sept. 17, 2012 at his residence.

He was born June 14, 1935 in Pike County to Clark and Louie Ethel Elliott, who preceded him in death.

On Aug. 1, 1969 he married Mary (Gossett) Holliday, who died on March 10, 2009.

Mr. Elliott retired from the railroad after 41 years. He greatly enjoyed his work and loved talking about trains. He also enjoyed mushroom hunting, canning and gardening in his free time. Mr. Elliott also enjoyed sitting on the front porch smoking his cigars and drinking coffee while spending time with his family and friends.

Surviving children included two daughters, Mary Linda (John) Hoffman of Indiana and Teresa Helmandollar of Piawa; two sons, John (Lou Ann) Holliday of Minnesota and James (Sylvia) Holliday of Lima; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sisters, Dora Wheaton, Betty Potts and Dorothy Raypole; and a brother, Jim Elliott.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, France Kelly; a grandson, James Scott Holliday; three brothers, Clyde Elliott, Junior Elliott and Norva Eugene Elliott; and two sisters, Mary Newman and Maxine Smith.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20, 2012 at the Smith-Moore-Ebright Funeral Home of Bainbridge. Burial will follow in the Bainbridge Cemetery. Friends may call from noon until the time of service at the funeral home on Thursday.
